Dental Health Check

Why do I need regular dental health checks?

We recommend that you see a dentist for a routine examination on a regular basis, especially if you have filled teeth or are susceptible to gum problems or decay.

This appointment is a good opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have about your teeth or gums, even if you think it is a minor issue. We can also talk to you about other treatment options for you if appropriate.

What happens at my dental health check?

At your dental health check appointment, we will:

  • Ask you if there are any changes in your health and or medication changes since your last appointment
  • Enquire about your smoking and drinking habits as this affects your oral health
  • Discuss your concerns with you and answer any questions you might have
  • Examine your dental condition, gum condition, tooth wear and jaw joints. In addition, we will carry out a mouth cancer screening
  • Take x-rays, if required, and discuss the condition of your mouth with you. Using intraoral camera technology, we can show you images of your teeth in magnified detail
  • Discuss the options and treatment plans available and give a written breakdown of costs involved

Frequently asked questions

You should aim to see your dentist for a check-up twice a year. However, you may not need to see us every six months and your dentist will let you know when you need to come back for your next check-up. If you have any problems between check-ups please phone us to arrange an earlier appointment.
